I couldn't help but notice that Anime Adrenaline posted a very weird TV Guide article where some guy was actually lost in DBZ, saying the plot was very "complicated".
Fusion Confusion
I wonder if some guy in Japan is watching episodes of Magilla Gorilla and saying to himself, "I have no idea what's going on here, but it's cool-looking". I ask because much imported anime baffles me. Take Cartoon Network's Dragonball Z (weekdays, 5:30 P.M./ET). It's harder to understand than computer schematics. It's the saga of Goku, a might warrior who was sent here to destroy Earth but is now our planet's most devoted defender, protecting us from the ferocious Saiyan. (I know that not from watching but from one of many shrine Websites devoted to Dragonball Z.) Goku has sons, Gohan and Gotan, and an ally named Piccolo, a green alien who sports a turban.
This cartoon has the densest mythology of any show on TV, with an endless array of surreal characters, all with different powers. Goku, for instance, can transform into a big, super buff hulk with a blond leonine mane. Other characters can fuse with one another creating hybrids.
I love watching Dragonball Z because the animation is fantastic, but I might as well keep the sound off.
