03/31/2003 Archived Entry: "DragonBox DVD Set + A Lot More"
Yes I did spell that right. Dragonbox. Here's some info on it, straight from Dragonball Toys.
The DragonBox DVD Set is now hitting stores in Japan. This extensive (and expensive) set of Region 2 DVDs (which means they won't play in most US players) comes with an exclusive Son Goku figure, which comes with an interchangable chest/head, for transforming him into a Super Saiyan.
Now I know what you all want. Pictures right? Well here you go. Go HERE to see a lot of pictures of the new product.
The box is nice and sturdy, it comes with a ton of discs, that have a TON of episodes, and the book, figure, and extras are nice. The overall quality of the video of the discs is good, and in my opinion, better than the domestic release. The domestic release has somewhat brighter colors, but it also has edge enhancement and artifact problems on many (all?) the discs. The colors on this release are a bit more subdued, but remind me more of what the series looked like when I originally saw it, and the overall quality is very good with no noticable artifacts or edge enhancement. I have also seen, although not confirmed myself, that the R2 disc set is encoded in progressive scan. Overall pretty good if you are a DBZ fan.
It looks pretty cool.
UPDATE
Representatives for FUNimation confirmed today that the IF Labs (Series 3) figures will indeed enjoy a mass release sometime in the near future. Dragonball Toys has some PICTURES of the new IF Labs Figures.
The early narrow release and subsequent rarity of the figures is another result of the transition from Irwin to JAKKS; however, the figures will soon be found in mass-market outlets nationwide.
UPDATE #2
In the latest issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly, they released the top 20 selling games of 2002. Number 13 was none other than the Legacy of Goku. This is incredible, considering some of the top games were just a notch above it. To view a list, check out the latest EGM (Electronic Gaming Monthly).
UPDATE #3
I was at DBGTN and went to the comments on the posts. According to tennis_man45, Dragonball Z will be taken off Toonami for the first time in three years. I had to check this out. I went to Toonami, and then to their schedules. It was true. On April 28, Dragonball Z will finish it's reign on Toonami. Just in time for Dragonball GT. Flugigo signing off...
