Game Boy | GBA | Playstation | Playstation 2 | Sega Genesis | Sega Saturn | Super Nintendo

Super Nintendo (SNES)

DragonBall Z: Suupaa Saiya Densetsu (Super Legend of the Saiya)

Featured Characters:
Goku, Piccolo, Kurirrin, Bulma, Kame-sennin, Gohan, Raditsu, Uranai Baba, Yamucha, Oolong, Tenshinhan, Vegeta, Nappa, the Ginyu Force, Zarbon, Dudoria, and Furiza.

XZ's Rating:
5/ 10

---
Genre: RPG
Players: 1 Player
Released in: Japan
Release date: January 1992

Features:

The first DBZ game released for the SNES console. The game basically covers the Saiya-jin saga all the way through the end of the Freezer saga. This is probably the best RPG released of the DBZ series. For being a SNES games, its graphics are not bad at all. Color and movement are nearly perfect and it develops a very fun gameplay (if you like RPG, that is). One of the most interesting features is that Goku even goes to Kaio-sama's planet and you must train against the gravity and Gregory, a feature not shown in any other DBZ game that I know of. Also, you get to use the dragon ragar and all... ^_^ The game features only the story mode and it's a bit short, but it's worth it in my opinion.

Good Points:

Graphics are not bad at all for a SNES game. Features Kaio-sama's training and the use of dragon radar, giving the game a unique experience that feels just like in the series.

Bad Points:

Although all interesting features, the game is short. Only covering the Saiya-jin and Freezer sagas. It could have been longer or at least a Part 2 of the game would have been interesting. Also, Goku only moves Up, Down, Left, Right. There are no curve movements like Northwest or Northeast.

DragonBall Z: Suupaa Butoden (Super Battle History)

Featured Characters:
Goku, Vegeta, Piccolo, Freezer, Android 16, Android 18, Android 20, and Imperfect Cell.

XZ's Rating:
4/ 10

---
Genre: Fighting
Players: 2 Player
Released in: Japan, France
Release date: March 1993

Features:

The first DBZ fighting game for SNES. Suupaa Butoden features the events from the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai to the beggining of the Android Saga. Important characters like Kuririn, and Gohan are missing in the game, although they're supposed to appear in the events. Graphics are not bad at all for a SNES game, and the gameplay is good, featuring the new "air battle" type of mode. Only flaws that I saw is that you are unable to charge your ki, the characters move a bit slow, and the split screen mode is used.

Good Points:

First DBZ fighter which revolutionized the genre previously used in DBZ games. Features common characters, trademark moves, and aerial battles. Story mode also featured.

Bad Points:

The game uses split screen and some important characters like Kuririn and Gohan are not playable. Gameplay is a too slow and you are unable to charge your ki.

DragonBall Z: Suupaa Butoden 2 (Super Battle History 2)

Featured Characters:
Goku, Gohan, Vegeta, Trunks, Piccolo, Cell, Cell Jr, Bojack, Zangya, and Brolly.

XZ's Rating:
7.5/ 10

---
Genre: Fighting
Players: 2 Player
Released in: Japan, France
Release date: December 1993

Features:

Suupaa Butoden 2 covers the events from the Cell saga in whole after Cell becomes perfect and also includes characters from some movies like Brolly. The game basically fixes all the flaws of Butoden 1. Only thing left to fix was the jumping speed which I still found slow. But nontheless, everything is smooth. Graphics improved here and even the title screen's movie was entertaining. Also, in this version you can also charge your ki.

Good Points:

Features all modes of Suupaa Butoden 1 with all bugs fixed, plus has some movie characters like Brolly, Bojack, and Zangya. Graphics improved, and ki regeneration is also present here. Mr. Satan appears slightly to lead the events of the Cell Games.

Bad Points:

Jumping speed is still too slow. Although the game covers up the events AFTER Cell is complete, it would have been nice to see #17 and #18 in the game. Also, I thought Mr. Satan should have been a selectable character.

DragonBall Z: Suupaa Butoden 3 (Super Battle History 3)

Featured Characters:
Goku, Majin Vegeta, Chibi Trunks, Mirai Trunks (hidden), Gohan, Goten, Android 18, Dabura, Fat Buu, and Kaioshin.

XZ's Rating:
6/ 10

---
Genre: Fighting
Players: 2 Player
Released in: Japan, France, Korea
Release date: September 1994

Features:

The 3rd edition of the Suupaa Butoden series is sort of disappointing. The game is good, but it lacked the story mode featured in its past games. This game is simply battle against your opponent. Nothing incredible was improved. It covers the events of the Buu saga but only features Fat Buu.

Good Points:

Same good fighting, new fresh characters.

Bad Points:

No story mode is present, and no big changes were made. You might as well stay with Suupaa Butoden 2 because you wont find anything new here besides the characters.

Title Screen || Trunks's Blast || Vegeta's Big Bang Attack

DragonBall Z: Suupaa Goku Den (Super History of Goku)

Featured Characters:
Goku, Bulma, Kuririn, Oolong, Yamcha, Kame-sennin, Puar, Pilaf, Red Ribbon Army, and Piccolo Daimao.

XZ's Rating:
4/ 10

---
Genre: RPG
Players: 1 Player
Released in: Japan
Release date: March 1995

Features:

The second DragonBall Z RPG title for the SNES console. This game has something good: DragonBall! Yes... The original DragonBall which is not featured in any game for the SNES console. The game starts with Goku meeting Bulma, follows up all the Pilaf events, and finishes with the Piccolo rivalry. Graphics are nice, but nothing incredible.

Good Points:

Features the original Dragonball events. Finally, a non-dbz SNES game!

Bad Points:

What can I say... Its nothign amazing. Dont bother to play it if you hate RPG. It's not much fun and gets boring after a while. Also, the game is all movies! It gets sort of annoying in the beggining since all you do is push the same button as to attack or whatever.

Title Screen || Goku is Hungry || Goku vs Bulma

DragonBall Z: Suupaa Goku Den 2 (Super History of Goku 2)

Featured Characters:
Goku, Gohan, Raditsu, Kuririn, Tien, Yamcha, Vegeta, Nappa, Kaio-sama, Kame-sennin, Dudoria, Zarbon, and Freezer.

XZ's Rating:
4.5/ 10

---
Genre: RPG
Players: 1 Player
Released in: Japan
Release date: September 1995

Features:

Suupaa Goku Den 2 covers the events from the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai to the Freezer saga. Not much to describe here since it's basically an IDENTICAL copy of Suupaa Goku Den 1. The only difference is that it's DBZ.

Good Points:

Sort of fun and graphics are good, like the 1st version. The title screen's intro is kinda fun as well, with very good graphics.

Bad Points:

There's absolutely nothing new in the game besides the story line. The game has the same graphics, same sound, same gameplay, same annoying stuff.... EVERYTHING. The .5 in the rating goes for the intro movie which was fun.

Title Screen || Shenlong Speaks || Roshi Pervert

DragonBall Z: Hyper Dimension (Hyper Dimension)

Featured Characters:
Goku, Mystic Gohan, Piccolo, Freezer, Perfect Cell, Majin Vegeta, Gotenks, Vegetto, Majin Buu, and Kid Buu.

XZ's Rating:
10/ 10

---
Genre: Fighting
Players: 2 Player
Released in: Japan, France
Release date: Mar. 29, 1996

Features:

The absolute UNDISPUTED best DBZ game for the SNES console, and possibly best DBZ game ever. Hyper Dimension features story mode, battle mode & other modes which makes it very complete. The best part of this game is the graphics.... One word: UNRIVALED. This has better graphics that all DBZ games released to date and it even surpasses Final Bout. Sounds impossible doesnt it? Well, you must see it for yourself. The game features the events from the late Freezer saga to the end of DBZ. Music is great, battle system incredible, graphics... I dont have to say it again, do I? Music is great too, and the characters have their trademark moves with names and all. Split screen is gone, and you can do blasts anywhere in the screen no matter how close your opponent is! Ki regeneration is also possible and it goes up along with your HP. Absolutely incredible.

Good Points:

Everything about the game is good, specially the graphics. You must play it to believe it!

Bad Points:

If find absolutely nothing wrong with this game, except maybe for the fact that the intro was a bit short and didnt say much. But, whatever. Who cares about the intro if you have the best gameplay ever used on a DBZ game?

Title Screen || Character Select || Gotenks's Ghosts
