I hope this is true. I remember back in the year 2000 that there was a rumour of the dbz live action movie being produced by FOX and they said it was going to be released in a few years but all of a sudden they cancelled it or didnt even produced it. Now I have to wait a few more years before it gets to the big screen.

I kinda agree with Yu Yu, I'm not so confident 20th century Fox can successfully recreate the DBZ feeling. And they may make the movie unbelievably cheesy with the hair...but I would like to see how they handle it...in other words this movie has a higher chance of sucking but will probably get loads of attention.

My advice would be, create the movie not with real live characters...
if they are going to make it... then PLZ make it like the Final Fantasy movie spirits within and the upcoming movie Advent Children

But that's just me...

I believe that this movie is too little, too late. When this movie finally arrives in theaters say in....2007, DBZ/GT will be long forgotten.
DBZ has been around for the longest time, and when this movie comes out, all of the people who used to watch the show as young teens, are going to be full-grown adults. It would make good sense to give it an R-rating.
As for recreating the DBZ feel into live-action, who says it's GOTTA BE exact! I mean why bother paying $10 for a summary of an anime, when you can receive a new fresh story, with some parts that may have been left out of the anime. My conclusion, this movie won't be horrible.

The movie will be awesome. Just face it the effects will be great and fox realizes they have a huge franchise in their hands and they won't screw it up. Man, 33 comments in less than one day.
Here's how I look at it:
First, It starts with a rumor. And then, nothing. Nothing for 3 godd@mn years. Then some rep says tehy were never doing it in the first place. Then, out of the blue, Ramsey says he'll be doing the script. Only ILM isn't involved in special effects this time (This is confirmed by several sources, including http://unrivaled.info) which is really a shame, because their work is good.)

This led me to believe that there are two possibilities. Either this whole thing was just a sham to get DBZ fans to pay attention to FOX, or they just put it off to work on something else. Either way, they make themselves look like complete @ssholes.

The first posssibility it the worse of the two, but when you think about it, it makes sense. A hot license with a HUGE fanbase (67 million fans to be exact), AND NO ONE HAS CLAIMED IT YET! All they have to do is leak out a few rumors, wait a few years, and then deny it all. That is bound to get them alot of attention. Their mistake was thinking we would forget about it and just move on to the next big thing. That wasn't happening quick enough for them, and nothing kills of a series like a sucky live action movie, and whaddya know, THEY HAVE THE LICENSE! They will make themselves look like saviors to DBZ fans. Just think of how many millions of 8 year old kiddies will want to see the movie no matter how much the critics say it sucks. (Of course the critics will say it sucks anyway, because they haven't seen the show and don't plan to. Not to mention they will make the connection between DBZ and kids, even if it's rated R. they will just attack it for being so violent, and then attack FOX for marketing a violent movie to kids with the DBZ label.) Now think of how many parents will be dragged in to see this movie, and within 5 minutes, label it as stupid. And if they don't fall asleep, they will be shocked at the first swear word, and drag their screaming kid out of the theatre as soon as someone dies. If they stay, the child will be talking about it for hours and hours to the parents until they are sick of it. Everyone else will say it sucked, even if they liked it, because everyone else is saying that.

The other possibility shows how they really do not give a rat's @ss about DBZ, as they let the license rot for 3 years. Then they noticed how we reacted and realized that they were about to lose 67 million fans, and will try and rush out this movie as fast as possible, which can lead to disaster.

As stated before, no matter how bad it turns out to be, they will still get millions upon millions of dollars. and thye jsut got a script for a measily $500,000. Don't get me wrong, that is still a ton of money, but not nearly as much as this guy Ramsey deserves.

Conspiracy theories aside, this movie is either going to make DBZ look like the best thing on earth, or completely ruin it. It just depends on how much work Fox puts enough work into it and doesn't just ride off the license. Personally, I'm going to see it regardless of what the critics say so I can see for myself how good, (or bad) it is. My advice is to stay away from the critics, because they will be inclined to think it is a kiddie movie months before it hits the big screen, and that is sure to spell disaster.

In my opinion, the movie should be rated R or at least PG-13, and the public should be reminded several times. The last thing we want is for parents to walk out of a theater holding their screaming child. Trust me, it has happened before, and that was in Spirited Away (PG).

One last note, The thought of a CGI movie like Advent Children or The Spirits Within is interesting. A movie like that might turn out good, but i am not sure whether it is a good idea, or it may even happen. To be good, it will have to be a 3D renering of the TV show and will have to be broadcast daily. The primary flaw in making it into a feature movie is that it will be very condensed. It will cut out key plot details, and confuse the public. It would be nice to see a CGI adaption of DBZ, but unfortunately, it is too ambitious of a project.
I would rather see a changed around Live Action movie then a changed around CGI movie ,which kills the point of making it CGI in the first place: Not having to change around stuff because of the physical limitations of the actors.

Please people, stop arguing in the comments secton. At the first mention of a DBZ movie, you are all at each others throats, which proves my point that we would nto forget about it soon.

"Last week we reported that Fox had informed IGN Filmforce they weren't going to be making a live action DBZ movie. Our article was based on an IGN Filmforce report that was in fact a copy of a KyleHebert.com article that was several months old.

Yesterday, Variety reported that Hollywood screenwriter Ben Ramsey has a half-million-dollar deal with 20th Century Fox to do the Dragonball Z adaptation.

According to Variety, the project is being overseen by Peter Kang, Fox's VP of production. Ben Ramsey penned the script for The Big Hit and Marvel's upcoming big screen adaptation of Luke Cage.

Kang's office confirmed to Anime News Network that the movie is a Fox project. They informed us that there is currently no projected release date."

This is more understandable than what the news poster posted...And if someone posted this already..i say it again, i didn't read squat on what you people said, only the news i read.

Now for the movie, i think that this movie should be made into 3D. Like Spiderman or even better, Final Fantasy 7 Advent Childern. That movie looks so realistic and so good that i get the feeling that if the movie doesn't get an award for a good plot, then it would get an award for best graphical likewise. just compare Sherk 2 and FFAC...FFAC would kill its *** in realistic form.

Anyway, getting back to what i was saying. This movie shouldn't be made into a life action but into a CGI form. Or if the the director who made the Matrix movies, directs the DBZ movie (sorry i don't know how to spell it. Wachosky?). Then i would give a exception about it, but i still prefer this movie to be made as a CGI.

ShawDow FX: The Matrix was produced by the Wachowsky Brothers.(I believe that is the correct spelling.) I am not sure whether they work for Warner Bros. or Village Roadshow, but they don't work for FOX.

The movie should not be COMPLETELY CGI. Obviously, there would be a great deal of CGI involved (like Spider-Man or The Matrix), but not complete CGI, like Advent Children or The Spirits Within. I already covered why in one of my previous posts.

Oh, and just to clarify:
FUNIMATION DOES NOT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE PRODUCTION OF THIS MOVIE!!!! THEY EVEN SAY SO ON DRAGONBALLZ.COM!!!!!

The Spirits Within...isn't that the other Final Fantasy movie that did really bad.

Anyway, Funimation has no fucking clue what the hell is going on. They didn't make Dragonball z, they just dub the damn episodes. The true person who might know is the creator himself...akira toriyama. But right now, i just hope the movie would be in CGI.

Here's another idea, they should use Hideo Kojima or the cut scene director of metal gear solid the twin snakes. I think those cut scene were very dramatic but very like the matrix. Now imagen if they used those style of scene in DBZ life action movie.

Gogeta, I have a few games made with TGF. Unfortunately, I do not know how to use it. I did, however, use a much similar program. The name slips my mind right now. Even though RPG's are possible, it seems like they would be very hard to make.

The reason why no one should care is because DBZ is done and over with, with the exception of several movies. Its done! No reason to care anymore! Indeed people like Naruto more now, but thats only because its new and its one japan's top anime, not because its edited or dubbed, which btw, will eventually happen.

I have foreseen the future... AX2004... bandai will announce they have accquried Naruto and air it on Toonami next year...

Or Adult Swim... but Naruto is better suited to the yougner demographic, so Im thinking, Toonami!

Ok first off. I think the movie should be made using CGI. (like Final Fantasy VII Advent Children) I just can't see DragonBall Z being done live action. I just don't think it would work. (but if they do make live action i'll still have to go see it) Anyways... I belive that FOX won't be so stupid as to get a Director for the DBZ movie and have the Director not know a thing about it. Most likly they will find a Director who knows DBZ and have him go to work. (same as Peter Jackson from Lord of the Rings) As for the actors they will most likely not know much or any about DBZ. So they will have to study it just like Tobey Maguire had to do for Spider-Man. (he read the first 3 years of the spider-man comics before they started to film the movie) And as things go for fiting the DBZ into 3 or 4 movies I think it can be done. Just look at Lord of the Ring so much fit into the movies and it worked great. (maybe they might even make extended editions of the movies) Or they might go the way of Harry Potter and make a movie for each of the many DBZ sagas. Who knows... But in closing I belive that it can't go wrong why would FOX want to upset 67 million people by making crap movie?

alright, the bottom line is: lam dbz movie has NO officially announced plans to be released. Anyone who's said so hasn't been up to date (unless ofcourse FOX announces it right after I post this). Now that I've stated the obvious that some have seemingly not recognized, in regards to "food innuendo guy"'s post- Unless you are God, and its obvious that God wouldn't say what you said, then you CAN'T make a good DBZ movie. Put simply, I (for once) agree with ShawDowFX, Toriyama is the ONLY one who could successfully get a lam dbz to look the way it should. The best way to make a group movie is to start at the beginning on each of there oragins so that way there is 1 main character in each movie and they will meat slowly and gradually and then make one huge movie with all of them in it so that way they can find each actor 4 that 1 roal so they wont

You are right in some points. There is no way they will be able to capture the characters looks, hair, emotion etc. If they tried to, it probably won't look that good.
On the other hand, given todays advancements in special and visual effects, energy blasts might look very good, especially if timed well with the acton. All they need now is some good choriography. What's the name of that guy who did the choriography for The Matrix Trilogy and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon? I'll post his name as soon as I find out, but he will be good for this movie.

Whoops, I spelled choreography wrong. Anywasy, his name is Yuen Wo-ping. He's also done a lot of Jet Li and Jackie Chan flicks, including Drunken Master, and Lethal Weapon IV. I'm not sure, but I think he also did Romeo Must Die.

i know that many people believe otherwise but i reckon this movie will be nothing but good for the whole DBZ franchise,no matter how good or bad the movie is with a hardcore fanbase like dbz's its going to do really well and will probably bring many new fans to DBZ and more merchandise will be sold and then there's the possibility of another DBZ series or spin off series.so i embrace the making of this film 100% and im not worried about it making DBZ look crap because the DBZ fans will know otherwise and peope who havent seen the show think its crap anyway.

Well i've seen some of comments about how people think it will be "kiddie" and then scare little kids. Well Spiderman to me was way more kiddie-er than DBZ and look, it's a big hit.

So if there going to make this movie I would suggest PG-13 so you don't have little kids in a rated R movie and sh*t there pants. But not to kiddie so all these teenagers will say it sucks. You know what I mean.

Unfortunately, Sweet Music, teenagers are going to say it sucks no matter how much they like it. When Matrix 2 came out, everyone was talking about how good it was. 2 weeks later, everyone was saying it sucks.
Actually, it should be R, if, for any reason, just to keep the parents awake, and give them a reason to see this movie before they take their child to see it. Sadly, the PG-13 rating seems to loosing it's meaning. I saw a 5 y.o. kid in a showing of Daredevil, acompanied by his obese, bored-looking father, who, sure enough, thought it was stupid (He probably fell asleep half-way through.) Even my father, who is VERY leniant on that stuff, thought it was a little dark (the movie, not the theater) but he enjoyed it.

There was one article in the Washington Post magazine that gave an inside look on how movies were being made for an R rated audiance, but were then toned down (just a notch) in order to recieve a PG-13 Rating, so the movie could reep in more money.

Maybe if the little kids get scared, it will teach the parents a lesson. Of course, it could turn for the worst, and lead millions of angry mothers banging down Time Warner's Doors, demanding
DBGT be taken off the air.

I disagree with the screaming five year old concept because most people who would go see a DBZ movie probably have seen something with the violence level of Matrix. Today's kids are much more tolerant with violence and I doubt there will be any parents who would let their "five" year old see it. The point is, if you're a dbz fan, you'd see it even if it will suck because you owe it to yourself to at least see what attempt was made at a lam. I know I will just to see what happens.
