05/05/2005 Archived Entry: "DBZ: Budokai Tenkaichi Revealed"

IGN.com has a special pre-E3 unveiling of the upcoming PS2 fighting game. Their article confirms that Budokai Tenkaichi (BT) is the English title of DBZ: Sparking. They've also confirmed that there will be at least 60 characters, including the entire Ginyu Force, Freeza, Perfect Cell, Kid Buu, Piccolo, and Super Saiyan Gohan confirmed in addition to SS Goku, SS Vegeta, and Janemba. BT will also feature destructible enviroments, free roaming, and FREE FLIGHT. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, in a return to the older style games, you will be able to fly without having to knock your oponent up in the air and stay on a steady track. IGN also has new screenshot from the E3 build and a couple of short videos of gameplay. Remember though this is an early build, meant to show off the game as part of this month's E3. So head over to IGN.com, read the article, and check out the videos. It does indead look like the best DbZ game to date.

I'm a bit worried though since they said SS Goku, SS Gohan and SS Vegeta, I hope in-game transformations will still be possible.

I read the review on IGN.com it was great!, but will they include characters from Dragonball GT, like Baby, Super 17, and all evil dragons. And are they still keeping Super Saiyan 4 capsules for Goku and Vegeta? I think so that why they are saying 60+ characters; And I will also love to see Bojack and Super Android 13.

Graphics are good, and the video looks impressive. The combat looks to be better than Budokai. I'm still skeptical though. I guess we just end up playing the waiting game.

It's possible that they used the name Hildegarn.

From the trailers I've seen the gameplay looks confusing. I'm going to have to get used to the new perspective. And the game seems to pause and center when a death blow is performed. Not sure I'm happy about that.

I don't quite understand why would some folks bring about fighting in space in this next upcoming game. Please, don't get your hopes up! Everybody by now should know that not all characters, ESPECIALLY SAIYANS, can't breathe in space. Someone also mention about Bardock fighting in space before planet Vegeta was destroyed. My three guesses is that maybe his armor is equip with a protected oxygen gear in him, or he's eaten one of his magic oxygen pills, or where he fights Freeza's henchmen must be full of oxygen around the planet. Those are only my three theories.

To the guy questionning the DBZ fake movie trailer, you did not see goku's hair, hence the word FAKE, it was a bunch of words with Naruto music, the guy who mentioned the hair said that so others would believe, he was lying so they'd download it.

yes, freeza has a son named kuriza who only made appearances in akira toriyama's later works and the japanese version of budokai 2. Majin Neko Z made an alliance with him.

I just don't understand one thing, the Japanese version is giving the game an English title; 'SPARKING' and the U.S. version is giving a Japanese title; 'BUDOKAI TENKAICHI'. I think a major exchange of the titles is in order. I mean that, the U.S. version should have the title 'SPARKING' and the Japanese version should have the title 'BUDOKAI TENKAICHI'.

I've beendong some big research on this new budokai game. I found a lot of images. It really looks good, I've seen some great videos. From what I heard with my own ears, is that in the E3 interview with the original creator of budokai tenkaichi, is that there is actually going to be over 90 CHARACTERS! I was seriously surprised when I heard this. All this time I thought it said over 60, but now it's over 90. I dont know whats going on, at first I was like wtf, maybe they made a mistake while translating but you never know these kinds of things. If you also hear in the video in the E3 interview, it also says that there will be indeed new characters that it has NEVER BEEN SHOWN BEFORE!! There is in fact going to be a 2 kinds of story mode on which one will just tell the original storyline of the dbz series, and the other one in whcih it will introduce all these new characters. From what I have also looked up, this version of the game does in fact include "CREATE YOUR OWN DBZ FIGHTER" feature. This is huge news for everybody here. Last but not least, I dont think this game it's going to be online. I searched through almost every single store site, and most of them say it does not support online play or its unknown at the moment. I dont really think it's that a big deal, I mean I can deal with it. Anyways that's all I gathered so far. I'll post from now on, with more info about this new game. Sounds great!; But as I said before, 'will all that data can fit in one disc or will thay make a two-disc game?' Because Budokai 3 was something 4.30 GB full thats almost full a disc with only 38 characters; so I think the game must be with two-discs; There is no way that all that data will fit in one DVD.

u cant be over 90 actual characters that is including transformations without transformations u can only be over 60 characters that hasnt been confirmed but think about 90+ characters that is ALOT of characters and there probally wont be gt characters so there will only be 60+ characters and i think that is enough proof of there only bieng 60+ characters.But i guess i do hope that there r 90+ characters but that is a very very slim chance, so that is all i can say but i do thiny you all get what i am tryngh to say.

I know its hard to beleiev that there is going to be over 90 characters. I have no idea wtf is going on. It is indeed a great question if there will be transformations in this new game. For one fact, the producers specifically said that "SS Goku, SS vegeta and Janemba" were going to be in this game. Now that freaks out everybody, due to the fact that they said "SS ..." instead of just the real actual name. I'm just lettin everybody in here know that this interview that I watched said over 90 characters. Most of the sites say over 60. I dont really know whats the deal here, all I know is that from the producers own words, he stated clearly as what I said about there being over 90+ characters. I guess all we can do now is just hope for the best.

Its gotta be including transformation's... that would make it 90 characters. If not theyd have to put like every GT character in there as well, which I wouldnt mind. 90 would be awesome but ill never beleive it until I see it in the game or somone can come up with undeniable proof.

I think 90 characters means including other non playable characters like Chi Chi, Bulma, King Kai and more. Because characters without any transformations, it will be like the old DBZ games like DBGT: Final Bout, DBZ: Ultimate Battle 22, DBZ: Legends and games from other platforms. So there wont be any difference in those games and this game.

Your right bloodfirm! In one of the demos showed in E3 when the guy is at the character selection screen, when he picks vegeta, its already in it's SS form. Guys I think that can only prove one thing, NO tranformations.

DBZ is way more entertaining than GT. I agree that DBZ characters should be included in the game. But if they are going to put g-a-y characters like chiatzu, then might as well just put more powerful characters from GT. I mean thtas just my opinion.

Actually, I think Fusions should be chosen as a different character. Like instead of choosing Goten, then doing fusion, is kind of stupid to me. Why dont just pick Gotenks from selection screen and there you go. I mean fusions are a tottally new characters.

Hey guys, here is my theory I don't know if they will including 'DBGT' sagas but if they will cover the entire 'DBZ' sagas including the 'Kid Buu' saga; Then they MUST include the 'Super Spirit Bomb' move for 'Goku'. In which 'Goku' MUST transform into a 'Super Saiyan' to do it; And as you all know from 'DBZ Budokai 2' & 'DBZ Budokai 3' that 'Goku' then continues to play as a 'Super Saiyan' even after doing the 'Super Spirit Bomb' move. And as we have all seen in the video footage that the characters are transformed from the beginning; I belive that, the game is not ready yet, there are 5 more months remaing for the game to release. So the version they played must be a testing or experimental version in which each character is tested from it's normal state to last transformed state. And speaking of transformations if we take 'Goku' who has 5 transformations ie.(Kaio Ken, Super Saiyan, Super Saiyan 2, Super Saiyan 3 and Super Saiyan 4). So do you think there will be 5 selectable 'Gokus'?.

tapion, i saw the reports on tenkaichi. L1 and R1 will be changes to fly up or down. people will know have to select normal goku or ss2 goku. same goes for vegeta and gohan. they are more focused on the look and the 3d effect of the fights than they are about capsules. it will be like dragonball gt final bout where players have to input combinations to do a move.

This game looks fantastic. Though my main concern is the behind the shoulder view. This cxan become irritating and annoying at times, for 2 playeds it would be very difficult for 2 of them to fight each other unless it was split screen (which for a fighter game is utterly horrible). I also hope that you will be able to transform during the game instead of having seperate characters in different forms

Go to 'Gamefaqs.com' and download the faq for 'DBZ Budokai 3' which has largest size (the one which is about 702KB) It has 100% Capsule listing. Every single capsule in the game is listed. But I don't know about the 'Baba's Crystal Ball' movies 002, 003 & 004; cause I have 100% Capsules but I don't have those capsules. I don't think there are any capsules like these. And if there are please let me know.

I Hoper Brendan Frasier will star as Goku, he'll make an excellent Goku and I'm pretty sure he will be up to it to star as Goku. HEY EVREYBODY I KNOW THE REAL TRUTH OF THE TRANSFORMATIONS IN TENKAICHI IF ANYBODY HAS PLAYED DBZ SUPERSONIC WARRIORS FOR GAMEBOY ADVANCE WELL NOW WE CANT CHANGE COSTUMES INSTEAD WHEN U GO 2 THE CHARECTER SELECTION U HAVE NORMAL GOKU THEN CLICK DOWN (like changing the costume) AND THEN IT WILL SHOW U SS GOKU'S PICTURE AND IT WILL SAY SUPER SAIYAN GOKU THEN CLICK DOWN AGAIN AND THE PICTURE WILL STAY THE SAME ONLY IT WILL HAVE LIGHTNING BOLT AROUND THE PICTURE AND IT WILL SAY SUPER SAIYAN 2 GOKU AND U HAVE TO UNLOCK SS3 AND SS4 IN STORY MODE.
