12/18/2006 Archived Entry: "High-Def Dbz!"
Hey all!
The holidays are upon us! I'll be off work for almost 10 days, I hope you guys are enjoying the time too ^_^. I am having some tech issues with the new tutorial videos, but once I fix things I'll upload the videos right away so just hang in there!
Funimation has announced that it will be releasing the entire DBZ series on DVD mastered in High Definition (1080P) and presented in Widescreen format (1;1.78), begining February 2007. The first box set which will cover the entire Vegeta Saga will be available on February 6, 2007. In addition, all the episodes will air on tv uncut, whether they will be presented in HD format or not is unclear at the moment.
"FUNimation worked with Dallas-based Video Post & Transfer (VPT), a full-service post-production house that provides a complete spectrum of video & film related services, for the digital remastering and restoration. The Dragon Ball Z series was digitally transferred from the original Japanese film frame by frame at 1080p. During the process, VPT utilized state-of-the-art digital noise reduction units to remove film grain and thousands of instances of dirt, scratches and debris. The transfer was performed by nationally-recognized colorist Steve Franko and supervised by FUNimation. The first Dragon Ball Z Season Set includes 39 episodes on five DVDs with over 900 minutes of action. For the first time, fans will be able to listen to the original Japanese score with either the original Japanese dialogue or the English dialogue. There is also a special ?making of? section for the new high definition Dragon Ball Z masters. Other special features for the Dragon Ball Z Season Sets include revised English dialogue and a brand new 5.1 surround audio mix.
Dragon Ball Z Season Set 1 covers the Vegeta Saga and it chronicles the introduction of one of Dragon Ball Z?s main characters, Vegeta. The Dragon Ball Z Season Sets will be available at major retailers nationwide on February 6, 2007 and will have an SRP of $49.98."
Sounds very interesting, but I am not sure If I want to spend some more money on Dbz. I purchased Funimation's "ULTIMATE" edition of the raditz saga, and I am hugely disapointed with the quality of the video, the transfer was horrible. The audio, however was presented in 5.1 sorround and it was VERY impressive, and the dubbing was great, you can hear some sample lines from my recent trailers and tv-spots. I will be back later with some more updates, see you later!

I got some of the new uncut set and well I'm not sure but the video was better then the first DVDs released of the saga back in 98. However I think I'll wait and see if they release beyond that. I really like to see some of the later part of the series and I hope they don't drag it out, just release them all one after another each month or so. If they don't it's going to be a big flop. I just feel bad for all those people who've been buying the re-release dvds. This is turning into what ADV did with Evangelion. One release, then the director's cut, then the platinum edition which includes the director's cut. My god! If I want to complete my DBZ collection, I'll wait until all of these are released and THEN buy them. What else can they do? VR DBZ? Posted by Krisqo @ 12/18/2006 09:25 PM EST |

Yeah I think it's quite terrible....The new ultimate cut dvds aren't even finished for season 1, and they are planning their HD episodes. Also, they say the episodes will be in 16;9 widescreen format...sadly, they are just cutting the bottom and top of the 4:3 full screen version. Posted by 007 @ 12/18/2006 09:44 PM EST |

From the looks of it..the ultiment series has been dscontinued and this new release is coming so to all who bought those...you got coned. Posted by Gogeaton @ 12/18/2006 10:12 PM EST |

Yeah, looks cool. It seems they've gotten complete originals, but apparantly not from the Japanese Dragonbox set, which had incredible quality, however the "Widescreen" elements of it are just weird, you get an extra 3% on each side but lose about 5% (at least) on the top and bottom, and its only pointless things being lost (and gained) but oh wells. Here's to good video quality but maybe some better packaging (I hate the look of the box). Posted by Catterix @ 12/20/2006 09:13 AM EST |

dragon box>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>any type of "HD" dvd funi bring..i know since i have all dragon box =P (cost me a freaking bunch X.x) the one good reason is there is no dub of any type on the dragon box xD..and the quality is like its been script hundreds of time...and i told you about this 007! xD.......then you started compaling about it......and i gave you the news on futurama.....then you gave me cake........ WHUTAI- you can make videos like adobe...i guess with vegas......but vegas doesn't have the standards as adobe....vegas is like adobe, but vegas's effects look pretty bad compared to eye candy effects in adobe. premiere is more complex but if u can master it its like heaven. vegas is a dulled down version of adobe but can do pretty much the same as PREMIERE...but not after effects...if you know remiere u cna do after effects i guess......but learning after effects while using vegas will be touuuuuuuuuuuuuuugh. What does "revised dialogue on other series" mean? Does that mean that they've changed the dialogue on, for instance, the Frieza or Cell saga? Posted by Nyaaa @ 12/20/2006 05:36 PM EST |

Golden gun... search VLC Media player or e-mail me and I'll send you the .exe file. I don't think FUNI can milk DBZ any farther. And I really don't see why there is such a big hassel for high def? HD TVs are still pretty expensive and for those without a high def tuner will see very little except a little jump in quality... which I would LOVE to see Funi pull off. Krisqo, believe me, they can milk this aloooot more. You should've seen what the Japanese did. Anyways, the main thing about this, is this is the first time the series is being released chronologically from the beginning. I mean, first off they had the highly edited 52 eps, which condensed the 39 ep Vegeta saga into 26 eps. And then we had a new cast with a different numbering system (Internally, though publicly they stayed the same) and these were released on VHS. Then they moved to DVD, stopping the VHS releases halfway through and beginning DVDs halfway through, they then went through from the Frieza saga up to the starting DVD point again. Then Pioneer released the original 52 eps again onto DVD. And then they begun releasing these ultimate uncut series, which were meant to just go with the rest of FUNI's DVDs post-ep 52, except this would've messed it up and anyway, were cancelled. And throughout the releases of the series there have been numerous boxset releases or episode collaborations that either didn't fit in, or ended half way that just completely messed it up. So this is the first time ever for U.S fans, that you can buy each episode, uncut, on DVD, in "HD", in "Widescreen", in chronological order, from beginning to end, in boxset editions of each "Saga". After this, you can bet a 10 year annaversery or something Posted by Catterix @ 12/21/2006 08:29 PM EST |

Hey sup? I plan to get the box set that funimation will be releasing February 2007 (all the 291 DBZ episodes). But I have a question, when people say "it will be the Vegeta saga", does that mean it starts off with Goku and the gang at Master Roshi's and then you see Raditz come and then warns them about Vegeta and then it goes into the Vegeta story, from top the moment Vegeta and Nappa get there till Vegeta retreats back? PLEASE let me know, although most likely I'll forget to come back to this site, so please replay me back at my e-mail address which is: west_coastn@hotmail.com Posted by Byrongene Romero @ 12/21/2006 11:39 PM EST |

I get that... but in all actuality... how many people are actually gonna go out and buy the same stuff they already have? Sure I can see getting the first batches of episodes up until after the Frieza saga when the eps were condensed. But what about the ones AFTER that? I did this with Evangelion and it pissed me the hell off. I started getting the original DVDs. Then the director's cut came out. Gotta get that. Then the platinum edition came out... with the episodes I already had. I was like "I spent over $140 on DVDs and now I'm gonna spend that and them some to get the same stuff I have? I just find it all to be a waste of money for a show we have all seen twenty times over. Posted by Krisqo @ 12/21/2006 11:41 PM EST |

Hm... sounds good. Thing is, they've got a reputation for being a bunch of lazy-arses, so I doubt it is what they say it is. But finally. Something about Vegeta. Posted by 007's only real fan. @ 12/22/2006 06:53 AM EST |
